I have been really lazy and not posting blogs...someday, when I get organized, I will remember to blog regularly. I've kept up on most of my reading of blogs, but have been lax in preparing blogs. If I don't have some entertaining pics to put up, I just don't like to blog.
Here is my Kamehameha dress I got from Ebay for $56, which I think is a VERY fair price
We had a great Thanksgiving, I ate WAY too much. I will post my TG blog this week. Hope all my American friends had a good holiday!
I'm no huge ebay veteran, I've bought about 50 items, total, from ebay, but for those that are new to it, do us all a favor and don't start bidding wars and run up the prices when there is more than a half hour left on the auction! I know the sellers like a frenzy and bidding war early on, but as a shopper who is always looking for deals and doesn't want to pay more than I think it's worth, the early birds are driving up the prices. Because of them, certain sellers over at Etsy and others on Ebay are charging hundreds of dollars for regular vintage dresses just because it has a full circle skirt. When I get a free hour or two, I'll write a blog about what my opinion is when determining the price of vintage and what people SHOULD be paying for vintage.
Enough of my rant...I have so much to write, but I'm still waiting on some pics, and have another night of social activities. I'll be blogging about the Time Zone Vintage photo shoot for the website that I styled and co-produced on Sunday, about seeing the Head Cat (picture with Lxxxx) and the Kim Lenz show tonight. Hopefully I'll get it all out here by the weekend.
OK...I started this blog to chronicle my social life. I had seen so many blogs related to hair, make-up, clothes, and decor, but not so many about having fun when you are immersed in a "vintage lifestyle." Like I stated in a previous post, I don't get people who are into vintage lifestyle but don't like the music. I understand not being totally into the rockabilly or swing "scene" but you gotta love the music!
I am about to do something I swore I wouldn't do, but since this is the Kim Show, and my friends are sick of hearing me brag about some new vintage piece I got (working at the vintage store, they heard that A LOT over the last year) I only have you, my fellow bloggers and lurkers, to brag to.
LOOK! I LOVE IT!!!!
I will give you a little background on this dress. First, it's silk, not cotton. Second, I tried this dress on in April when I was at Viva. It fit me perfectly. I wanted it so bad, but it cost too darn much!!! Well, I was trolling Etsy, and couldn't believe my eyes when I found it! Even better, it was priced half what it was at Viva (I think if I remember correctly...or it could be $50 less, either way it was LESS!). I paid for it Friday and I'm still waiting to hear when it ships...I will definitely post pics when it comes.
This is week 2 of my new job. It feels good to be back in the workforce and it also feels good that the financial pressures will be lifted a bit.
I laid low last weekend. I still haven't given up my position at Time Zone and worked on Saturday. That was a six day work week, and I don't think I've done that since 1994. I know I will eventually have to let it go, but I love having the hook up to great clothes and other goodies. I know when good stuff comes in and I usually get a price break on some of it. Consignors will often sell to me for less, and many times my boss gifts me things. I will miss it, but the reality is that it was a "play" job. I didn't feel like I was working. I had a lot of joy helping people find the right vintage outfit and help girls find a great dress that fit them just right. The big difference is that I just didn't make enough money. I make more in a week at my new job than I did in a month at my old job.
Thursday is Frank and my 15th wedding anniversary. Not sure how we are going to celebrate, and since I work now, I don't want to be out late.
I may go to Verdi Club tonight (I know, it's a work night!) but it is Lola Devlin's birthday and Carl Sonny Leyland is playing. I'll bring my camera to work, just in case I go.
When I get in the groove of working, you will hear more from me again.
I've blogged a bit about the history of Booze Broads and Hotrods in a prior post. I talked about years past and 2009 when we made the big jump from a club to a hotel. This year, we went all out and decided we wanted to put on our dream show, which was to book Carlos and the Bandidos.
The Bombshell's philosophy toward our show (this philosophy was started by Rachelle) was to bring music acts to the Bay Area who have never played or haven't played for a very long time. Our main motives are selfish because we want to see the band play and we are the only ones willing to book the show, but also a "thank you" to the San Francisco Rockabilly and hot rod scenes for giving us what we love.
None of us girls profits personally from the show, it all gets re-invested in next year's show. This last year was really the tops, here is the flier:
The show was scheduled the week after Vegas, and we like having that weekend. There were people who came from LA, and some from England and Spain who had been over for Viva. That is one reason we time it that way. Also, it is a nice way to treat those "post-viva blues" people get after Viva Las Vegas.
I am just going to post pics from the show, and will do a later post about my adventures with Bandidos and how I have forced Neil to be my BFF.
I will tell the BBH story with photos...lots of photos!

No, this rant isn't a judgmental scene related rant. I won't be talking dirt about other girls or people's taste in music. Nothing like that.
This is a rant about Transvestites that come to the vintage store I work in.
First off, they have no interest in vintage clothes. They visit our shop because:
1. it is not in a busy area so a little more privacy
2. it's easier to run out of the store and not buy anything
3. I work there and because I look vintage, they think I'm more sympathetic to their obsession.
I want to start by saying that I have nothing against fetishists, or their fetishes. I personally have a few, but they are not the business of some stranger in a shop and I wouldn't subject some poor shopgirl to my fetishes. People's sexuality is their own business, period.
What bothers me about the transvestites that come into the store to try on clothes is that they are PREDATORS. I will explain how they are predators, because I'm certain some people will try to excuse this as harmless, but I know from experience, that they will prey on unwilling people for their own pleasure.
One example of this was when I explicitly told a TV who was trying on clothes that I did not think it was appropriate to view him in the clothes, since for him, the clothes were for a sexual purpose. He still came out of the dressing room with a wig and lipstick on wearing lingerie. He then started to leave the store after, and this was after I had helped him shop and talked to him about his love of woman's clothing for about an hour, without making a purchase!!!!! As he was walking out, I yelled after him, "Don't come back here without buying anything."
Yesterday, another transvestite came in straight up told me he wanted to dress in drag. I was helping him, and had explained that I don't want to see him in the clothes, and if he shows me, I will ask him to leave. I told him of my previous experience and he was sympathetic. When another customer was in the store, I was discrete about his purpose in the store and helped the other customer. After the other customer left, I continued to help him and he went into the dressing room while I helped a couple that walked in. He gave me his selections and told me he would run and get something to eat and would be back when the customers left. He returned to the store about 20 minutes before closing and I had 3 different customers I was helping. I started to ring up his stuff, when I was interrupted by one customer who was trying on jackets. The Transvestite walked out. I ran outside and asked him if he was going to purchase his items, and he just waved his hand and got in his truck.
I realized yesterday, these perverts just want my unwilling attention as part of their fantasy. The fact that I don't give a shit if they like to dress in women's clothes doesn't faze them. They just want my attention. FUCK THEM. If one more comes in, I will tell him it's $200 bucks up front and I will let them show me themselves in the clothes, and they don't have to buy anything.
The truth is, my new policy is men are not allowed to try on women's clothing. They can buy it all they want, but no trying on. Also, no talking to me about it.
Just a fun loving, jive dancing, rockabilly music seeking, sassy gal about town. After watching all the vintage "how-to" videos, tutorials, and Blogs, here's a "what to do" and "where to go" blog after you get yourself dolled up. I changed the name of my blog to "The Kim Show" because all my friends tease me and call me "The Kim Show." I feel I am now living up to their expectations by writing this blog.
I love vintage glamour, heels, pretty clothes and dancing to hot music. I love my husband, my kids, and my friends. I also love my vintage wardrobe, confetti lucite, and the dozen or so vintage sunglasses in my collection. I am a bit of a hoarder and someday you may see me on that T.V. show, only instead of dirty dishes, there will be piles of cashmere and bins of rhinestones.
