Thursday, June 16, the Turners and I woke up pretty early and headed to the train station to take the train on our way to the Rave. The train took us to King's Cross, where we then caught a taxi over to the Embankment Tube station where we caught the "Coach" (bus) to the Rave. The first person I saw when we got out of the cab was an acquaintance from L.A., T-Bone from His Vintage Touch hair. T is a very talented stylist who styles Marlene from the Rhythm Shakers, among others. It was nice to see a familiar face.
While waiting for the Coach I saw another couple from San Jose, as well as Gary, who used to live in San Jose and used to play in the Kingpins, a local rockabilly band in the 80s.
My chalet mates were Sean, Frannie (currently in Boston), Jen from Seattle, and Laura from London. Laura was the only one I hadn't met in person yet, but knew her from facebook. She is a good friend of DJ Cosmic Keith who had reserved the chalet for me. All of us are the stay out all night dancing sort of people and we all got along wonderfully.
I was on a mission to buy some Freddie's of Pinewood Jeans and headed over to the vendors. I ended up buying two pairs, red capris and blue denim jeans, and now I know what size I am, I will be able to order more online. I also bought a cute knit top from Rocket Originals. I had to get out of there or I knew I would spend too much money!
My good friend, Tommy, from Chicago was 2 doors down and another friend, Irvin, who used to live in San Jose was next door. It was great to have so many people I know staying right around us.
After a shower and freshening up, I headed down to the main hall to find Neil and to see Wayne the Train Hancock perform.
Here are some photos from that first night:
When the record hop was over, we headed back to the chalet and had a bit of an after-party that ended about 5 or 5:30.
Sean ended up telling people the party was over when we all wanted to go to sleep. That was it for the first night, and it was a good start to a fantastic weekend!
