Another Etsy Rant...

Really, who on earth is playing over $400 for a simple vintage day dress!? I keeps seeing things like this! $400 for a Shaheen (which are hardly selling at that price anymore) or Ceil Chapman, but even Suzy Perette is selling for less than $300 when auctioned.

I posted this dress on facebook, asking who would spend almost $400 for a day dress, and checked it today, she had raised the price $30!!! Is it the seller or the idiots who buy the dresses?

stuff like this kills me. I think it's a combination of seller and idiot buyers who cause plain cotton dresses to go for $200 and up. It's particularly annoying because you -know- that this seller didn't pay anywhere near $400 for that dress. Even in vintage clothing stores, you wouldn't find a plain dress like that for such a high price

Ugh. I can't think of ONE clothing item I would ever pay that much for

You are completely right!!! I really wish there was a way on Etsy to sell how well/quickly a particular seller's stuff sells, and to whom...
This type of pricing is so insane. I guess we can't know for sure how much these sellers are paying for their stuff, but I CAN tell you that a dress like this will be $20-$30 bucks (at most)at an estate sale...granted you do have to stand in line at five a.m. in the freezing cold next to a bunch of annoying old men to get that price :-)
I'm an Etsy seller and I rarely price anything over a hundred bucks.
Oh, well, some people will always be greedy, I guess...

I've seen some ridiculous prices on there, from an acquaintance, no less! I tagged you for an award on my blog! http://everybranch.blogspot.com/2011/04/ive-been-tagged.html

That is ridonkulous! It is even more frustrating since I like the look of the dress and it is my size - however there is no way I'd pay even 1/4 of that price for a cotton day dress!

I notice that CA sellers tend to have higher prices. Perhaps people in CA are used to paying outrageous amounts for clothing? That dress would have to be lined in gold for me to be willing to spend that much on it!

It would have to be the dress of all dresses for me to pay that price. My most favourite gold lame dress was only about $50 and I had to think about it. I have no idea what's the most I've ever paid but I doubt it's over $100!
